Adapted Physical Education

About the Program

Welcome to the Cantalician Center for Learning's Adapted Physical Education (P.E.). Here you will be able to find all the information you need as a parent or student of Cantalician Center. Please feel free to email us with any questions.

All students receive four to five 30 minute P.E. classes each week, which are instructed by certified physical education teachers.

Units of activity may include: body and space awareness, locomotor movements, throwing and catching, fitness, relay races, obstacle courses, football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, track and field and many more fun and exciting activities.

Our Philosophy

As Adapted Physical Education (P.E.) teachers, we feel students with disabilities should experience a quality

physical education program that meets their individual needs and provides them with opportunities to achieve their maximum potential both physically and

socially. Our promise is that Cantalician Center will have one of the most progressive adapted physical education programs in Western New York.

Cantalician Center's vision for P.E. is based on the concept of physical fitness and functional activities. Through participation in a unique P.E. program, students will be motivated to adopt a physically active lifestyle.

The learning experiences our students will have at Cantalician Center will promote a positive attitude towards healthy and physically active behavior throughout their life, awareness of a safe and healthy environment, and give students the resources to participate in sports and fitness activities outside of Cantalician Center.

Guiding Principles

The guiding principles that support our vision for P.E. at the Cantalician Center:

  • All students can learn and grow.
  • All students are entitled to a dynamic adapted physical education program.

  • The instructional style of the adapted physical education program will accommodate diverse learning styles and the specific needs of our students.
  • Excellence in adapted physical education teaching and learning grows from a commitment shared by teachers, students, parents, administrators and the community as a whole.
  • Physical fitness and activity are essential for lifelong growth and learning.
  • All students will be motivated and encouraged to participate in individual and group activities to provide them with a broad range of health and wellness opportunities - with a direct focus on effort, sportsmanship, and achievement.
