All Students receive four to five 30 minute Adapted Physical Education Classes, each week, which are instructed by certified Physical Education Teachers.
Units of Activity may include: body and space awareness, locomotor movements, throwing and catching, fitness, relay races, obstacle courses, football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, track and field and many more fun and exciting activities.
As Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teachers, we feel students with developmental disabilities should experience a quality Physical Education program that meets their individual needs and provides them with opportunities to achieve their maximum potential both physically and socially. Our expectation is that the Cantalician Center will have one of the best, progressive Adapted Physical Education programs in New York State.
The Cantalician Center for Learning's vision for Adapted Physical Education is based on the concept of physical fitness and functional activities. Through participation in a unique APE program, students will be motivated to adopt a physically active lifestyle.
The learning experiences our students will have at the Cantalician Center will promote a positive attitude towards healthy and physically active behavior throughout their life, awareness of a safe and healthy environment, and give students the resources to participate in sports and fitness activities outside of the Cantalician Center.
